For older people, moving into a nursing home<\/b> is a drastic stage of life that is associated with challenges such as the loss of autonomy, emotional stress and adapting to new living conditions. In view of demographic change and the increase in multimorbidity, needs-based care is becoming increasingly important. Participation, understood as the active involvement of residents in decision-making processes and as an open-ended approach to shaping the care, support and everyday lives of older people<\/b>, is essential for promoting autonomy, quality of life and well-being. It is unclear how participation in the transition from hospital to a care home is understood and implemented by older people, relatives, care professionals, social workers and other professionals involved. A lack of involvement can have a negative impact on the willingness of older people to move into a nursing home.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The study aims to capture the experience of participation during the transition to a nursing home<\/strong> in the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft from the perspective of residents, their relatives, nursing staff and other professionals. The aim is to comprehensively analyse decision-making processes, identify challenges and create a basis for the development of practice-oriented interventions to strengthen residents’ self-determination and optimize decision-making structures in nursing care.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The qualitative, explorative study uses case studies and is based on the methodology of rapid ethnography<\/strong>. Data is generated through participant observation, informal conversations and semi-structured interviews. The interviews are audio-recorded, transcribed and analyzed together with written field notes by the research team. Thematic analysis (TA) according to Braun and Clarke is used for data analysis.
